Focus on Water

Since its establishment in 1957, Stetson Engineers has maintained this focus on water in California and throughout the western United States. While the company has expanded its expertise over time to include all aspects of water, the primary focus has remained constant, which allows for the development of specialized expertise, and sets our company apart from other engineering firms. In addition to maintaining a staff with specialized expertise in civil engineering, surface water, groundwater, and water rights, we utilize the latest technologies and tools to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions to complex water issues.

Professional Practice

Since the company’s inception, Stetson Engineers has subscribed to the traditional model for engineering consulting, where the firm is viewed as a professional practice guided by ethical and professional standards and, most importantly, where the needs of the client are paramount.

While this model has waned over the years for many firms, at Stetson Engineers, professional practice remains our hallmark. We proudly stand apart as one of the oldest independent, employee-owned water resources engineering firms in California. Our list of long-term clients testifies to the quality professional service that our practice provides.

Recognition

Stetson’s reputation as experts in the field of water resources is founded on dedication and a commitment to provide quality consulting services. By maintaining its focus on quality, the company has gained the trust of many long-term clients and has obtained notable recognition in the field of water resources by its peers and other leaders in the water industry. These recognitions include special appointments to serve in technical advisory positions for the Governor’s Commission to Review California Water Rights Law, the California State Water Boards, and several major water districts. Other significant recognitions have been received by the company’s president in the form of certificates and letters of appreciation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) for contributions to securing long-term agreements on the operation of the Truckee and Carson Rivers.

Traditions & Legacy

Thomas Stetson’s legacy is deeply rooted in California water and has its beginnings in his valuable role as a consultant in Arizona v. California (1963). Stetson Engineers' long history and continued success are directly attributed to his life-long dedication and commitment to solving water issues, both of which are carried forward by the company’s present staff.

Stetson Engineers proudly funds the endowment of the Thomas M. Stetson Scholarship, administered by the American Groundwater Trust. The $2,000 award, which is given to a high school senior intending to pursue a career in ground water, is given in recognition of the life-long contributions by Mr. Stetson to solving water resource conflicts and developing sustainable water management methods in the Western United States.
